Routine Eye Examinations

An important part of maintaining your vision and eye health is to have a routine eye exam every year. If you are due for an exam, contact New Century Ophthalmology to make an appointment with one of our eye doctors. We serve those in the Oxford and Raleigh areas of NC. Here is what you can expect when you visit our ophthalmologist or optometrist for an eye care exam.

Your Medical History and Current Vision Needs Are Addressed

You will need to fill out paperwork upon your arrival at our facility. This includes information about any troubles you have been experiencing with your vision as well as any history you can provide to our optometrist. Our doctors will use this information to aid in determining treatment options you may need, as well as give them a starting point regarding your current visionary needs. If you have optical insurance, be sure to bring along any information so we can contact your provider at the time of your appointment.

A Complete Check of Your Eye Health Is Conducted

We use state-of-the-art equipment and tools to assess your eyes' medical and visionary needs. If you decide you would like extensive testing of your eyes to check for additional eye conditions, you can opt to have your pupils dilated at the time of your appointment. Make sure to bring along someone to your session to drive you home when your appointment ends. The drops we use for dilation tend to cause blurry vision for a few hours afterward. If we find you have a medical condition that requires treatment, our ophthalmologist or optometrist will discuss options with you to determine the right path toward recovery.

Your Prescription Strength Is Discovered and Vision Tools Are Provided

A part of a routine eye exam includes determining your prescription strength. If refractive errors are detected in your vision, one of our eye doctors will use glass plates of different strengths to determine your exact eye prescription. If you require eyeglasses or contact lenses, we are able to provide you with them in the strength you need. We are also available to give you a lesson on contact lens care if you opt for them.
